The Compass Garden toward the south is a restored heirloom garden with a sitting area, and unique stone and iron arbor which was designed and custom-built using architectural details from the manor’s original design.
Woodland wildflowers, an expanded collection of bluebell flowers, seating areas and a cobblestone path highlight this garden. The east side border is particularly characteristic of Jens Jensen’s preferred “buffer” which differentiates the public side of the area from the private side. It features low-growing bulbs, a middle story of shrubs, and a dense canopy of trees.
The Japanese Garden, or Moriyama Garden to the northwest was built as a gift from the Bloomington-Normal Sister Cities Committee and Asahikawa, Japan, one of the community’s sister cities.
The South Lawn Garden to the west of the property’s main entrance, features multi-colored flowers appropriate for all seasons, stone pathways, and lighting.
This elegant plaza leads up to the Manor's front door and is adjacent to the Compass Garden. It features the Jacob fountain accented with benches and is bordered by ”century” fence posts which were a patented design by Davis Ewing and once comprised a fence that surrounded the entire property.
Terraces north of the Manor overlook the Great Lawn, and offer long views of the landscape, a primary pathway, and brilliant flower gardens. Future plans include the construction of a pavilion at the north part of the Lawn.
The Northern Buffer features flowering shrubs under a canopy of trees.
The fern garden is nestled next to Ewing Park I at the northern border of the property.
