The Architecture
Ewing Manor is built in the Channel-Norman
style, a popular period
revival style of the early twentieth century. It incorporates French-inspired
detailing and English functionalism, the intent of which was to convey
the charm of a pastoral estate. Acting as building contractor, the
John Felmley company constructed the home at a cost of $178,000. Many
of the building materials were artificially aged to give the weathered
appearance associated with a European country home. The style of the
home was compatible with Hazle Buck
Ewing’s lifelong concern
for nurturing the environment and maintaining all that was natural.
