The History

Once a vast estate on the outskirts of Bloomington, the property originally known as Sunset Hill now comprises 6 acres of wooded landscape, the centerpiece of which is the majestic manor house built for Hazle and Davis Ewing in 1929. Designed in the Channel-Norman style by local architect Phil Hooten, the home was occupied by Hazle Buck Ewing until her death in 1969. Prominent Chicago landscape architect Jens Jensen designed the landscape. The images shown are vintage photographs taken during Mrs. Ewing’s lifetime.
