Inside the Manor
Although outwardly the building appears elaborate and enormous,
many visitors are surprised to discover the simplistic design
of the interior spaces of the two story residential wing. Consistent
with the Channel-Norman design, every room has both a northern
and southern exposure, providing sweeping views of the lawns
and gardens. The manor is not without its innovation, however.
It includes a complete intercom system, an innovative carwash
apparatus and a refrigerator-cooled water fountain—unheard
of amenities at the time the manor was constructed. The most
impressive area of the house is the entry foyer, which soars
all the way to the top of the turret. The turret’s exterior
weather vane was once connected to an arrow inside, which pointed
to letters on the ceiling indicating the wind direction.
